Wheelwright Workshop Langenhof

The Craft of the Wheelwright

For centuries the wheelwright's workshop was an indispensable part of village life. This is where the wagons that farmers needed every day were mainly made.

The Stichting Wagenmakerij Langenhof foundation works to keep the craft of the wheelwright alive through stories in this workshop, with old machines and tools. In this way, the craftsmanship of the past remains visible and tangible.

Authentic Workshop

It's as if time has stood still.

In our wheelwright's workshop we demonstrate how machines over a hundred years old are driven by belts powered by a stationary engine.

There are also many tools, workbenches and wagons as they were once made here.

Expert Guides

Our volunteer guides share their knowledge and personal stories about the craft.

Preserving Heritage

Stichting Wagenmakerij Langenhof wants to preserve this cultural heritage, unique to our country, for the future together with the Langenhof family.

They say:

How wonderful that this has been preserved! A special museum where you can literally smell history. The guide told the story so vividly that we forgot about time.

Visitor

That the carts were made here, visitors can believe, but when I tell them my father built an airplane here, they are completely astonished.

Visitors tell me that they have passed by so many times without knowing that farm carts were made here. When they come inside to look, they are impressed. It is a privilege to preserve this heritage.
